Registration

  • Community members: CARAS reserves 20 registration slots for interested community members who are not academics or clinical practitioners. This is a first-come, first served basis.
  • 6th Annual Alternative Sexualities Conference: Cultural Competencies, Clinical Issues, Research and Education
  • Licensed Professionals: this category is for those intending to receive CE units towards their continuing education requirements for licensure.
  • For those whose presentations have formally been accepted for the 2013 conference
  • Professionals: this category is for researchers, scholars, scientists and academics, or for those who serve alternative sexuality communities in formal, professional roles and identities
  • Students: this category is for those who are currently enrolled as students, at any level, or for those who are currently serving in a post-doctorate position. ID will be needed at registration to confirm status.
  • for those who officially sign up for a 4 hour volunteer shift during the conference

Preliminary CONFERENCE PROGRAM

 

The overall conference educational objectives
At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:
1. Discern and distinguish emotional and sexual abuse from BDSM sexuality
2. Identify 3 of the most likely issues or concerns around BDSM sexuality in counseling interactions
3. Be able to identify 3 of the most likely issues or concerns around polyamory, swinging and other forms of consensual non-monogamy in counseling interactions
4. Identify at least two resources for learning more about BDSM sexuality or polyamory, swinging and other forms of consensual non-monogamy
5. Articulate the issues with DSM diagnosis of BDSM sexuality as a paraphilia
6. Identify conceptualizations of BDSM sexuality in classical clinical literatures
7. Identify some of the current research needs and current studies on polyamory, swinging, other forms of consensual non-monogamy and BDSM sexuality.
